Jasper's dining scene is like Banff but only on a smaller scale. There are plenty of family and casual dining options serving Greek, Japanese, Italian, French and North American supplemented by a number of fine dining rooms in the Jasper Park Lodge. For a great view with your meal, be sure to try the restaurant at the top of the Jasper Tramway.

This gourmet shop sports walls the colour of orange sherbet and is a favourite of locals and tourists alike. Counter service is the norm; once you've picked up your food, you can eat along the bar or stake out one of the small tables. Gourmet pizzas are popular, as are salads, soups, and sandwiches. Fillings include salmon salad, smoked turkey, and egg salad. You'll also find bagel and pita melts, croissants, muffins, date squares, brownies, and both apple and blueberry pies. A full espresso bar serves an array of coffee drinks; accompanying them are teas, hot chocolate, fresh carrot juice, and lemonade. Due in part to the restaurant's longevity, it has become "Jasper's authority on prime rib." It regularly serves up Alberta's best beef to hungry patrons, who test their appetites with a 16-ounce T-bone or the signature prime rib, made extra succulent with a rich au jus. Surf and turf adds a lobster tail to the charcoal-broiled cut of meat. Beyond steak, there's chicken, lamb, trout, veal, and barbecued ribs. Seafood also pulls in its fair share of diners, who clamor for sautéed scallops and prawns broiled in a special garlic sauce. A wide-ranging wine list provides appropriate vintages for any entree, and an outdoor terrace welcomes guests in mild or cool weather, thanks to a powerful heat source.

Meat, whether it be beef, lamb, buffalo, or chicken, is the entree of choice, and it seems somehow appropriate to feast on it in a mountain setting. Lighter appetites will be pleased by pastas, seafood, and gourmet pizzas, which are every bit as delicious.
