The Rockies are part of the continuous chain of mountains that divide the North American continent from the Yukon down as far south as Mexico. The Canadian Rockies, different in appearance and origin from the American Rockies and the mountains farther west in BC, are renowned for their spectacular scenery, impressive wildlife and for the vast wilderness they preserve. Significantly newer than their counterparts to the west and south, the Canadian Rockies are revered for their rugged beauty and unspoiled terrain.
The Canadian Rockies extend southeast to northeast along the continental divide, separating the provinces of Alberta and B.C. in the south while also distributing the flow of rivers to the Atlantic, Arctic and Pacific Oceans. Although the Canadian Rockies are only 120km (80 mi) wide, they boast diverse scenery featuring seven distinct landscapes, each with its own physical characteristics and climate, and resulting distributions of vegetation and wildlife.
The Canadian Rockies encompass five National Parks (Banff National Park, Jasper National Park, Yoho National Park, Kootenay National Park and Waterton National Park) and numerous Provincial Parks that keep the region almost entirely uninhabited, unless you're counting the dozens of species of wildlife that call it home.
While the remote wilderness is what draws millions of visitors a year, the Canadian Rockies is a world-class resort destination that can spoil you with an incredible array of accommodation, activities, shopping and dining opportunities available twelve months of the year. Ultimate Rockies is your complete "destination specialist" and can craft your ultimate Canadian Rockies getaway in any of the region's spectacular resort communities.
