Course Overview
In the heart of the Canadian Rockies, less than an hour's drive from either Calgary or Banff, visitors find a golfing paradise. The rugged surrounding peaks tower a full 9,600 feet above sea level, the courses themselves are at almost 5,000 feet, forming an unforgettable background, the cascading Kananaskis River a constant and pleasant companion.
Named for the soaring peaks that serve as their most inspiring landmarks, the Mount Lorette and Mount Kidd courses share more than 600 acres of lush fairways, bent grass greens, 142 strategically-placed bunkers, forest, rivers, streams and ponds.
Once again honoured by Golf Digest Magazine subscribers with 4 1/2 stars and the only Canadian golf course to make the Top 10 for Best Value, Kananaskis Country Golf Course invites you to experience an incomparable blend of beauty and challenge.
There are two beautiful courses to play - Mt.Kidd and the Lorette course. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. in the early 1980s, the two eighteen hole courses roll gently along the river valley under the jagged peaks of Mt. Lorette and Mt. Kidd; hence the names given to each eighteen. Finely sculptured greens and expansive fairways enhanced by the splendour of the Canadian Rockies promise a golf experience unique in the world.
The use of large sand traps, water and undulating greens are Robert Trent Jones trademarks. These elements combined with Mt. Kidds elevation changes provide a challenging, mountain golf experience.
A par 72, the yardage ranges from 5,539 to 7,083, offering a manageable test for the average golfer and a test of true skill for the low handicap player.
Mt. Lorette course was officially opened on July 22, 1983. A par 72 with multiple tee boxes, the course plays from 5,429 to 7,102 yards. Water hazards come into play on thirteen of the eighteen holes. The glacier-fed Kananaskis River winds its way through the back nine of Mt. Lorette, feeding the creeks and ponds on the front nine. Where one manages to escape the water, the combination of large irregularly-shaped greens surrounded by strategically positioned sand traps add to a unique contest of skill for all golfers.
With both Kananaskis courses consistently ranking in the top 50 courses in Canada and a perennial winner for best value, Kananaskis Country Golf Course is a natural choice to include in your Canadian Rockies golf vacation.
