Mountain Biking in the Canadian Rockies
The Canadian Rockies offers exceptional mountain biking opportunities from one end of the region to the other. With hundreds of miles of diverse trails available to mountain bikers, the Canadian Rockies are ideal for all ages and levels of ability. Throughout the National Parks, mountain biking is permitted on specific trails only, many of them old fire roads. Most “no-biking” trails are now clearly posted, but be sure to check with a park information centre to ensure that biking is allowed on your desired trail. Restrictions also apply with provincial parks.
Kananaskis Country, which was intentionally set out for multi-recreational use since its inception in the 1970s, is one of the most popular areas for mountain bikers. A number of ski hills also offer excellent terrain for mountain biking, especially for bikers that want the thrill of challenging downhill slopes and the convenience of chairlifts to usher them to the top. Panorama, Kicking Horse, Fernie and Kimberley all cater to mountain bikers throughout the summer months and hold international quality races.
